John C. Schumpert, MD, MPH, the Founder and President of REOH, received his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Montana, Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, and Master of Public Health from the University of Minnesota Graduate School of Public Health, where he also completed his residency in Occupational Medicine. Following completion of his residency, he was employed at the corporate headquarters of 3M Company as a staff physician. In that capacity, he provided occupational health and general medical consultative services to several 3M manufacturing and support groups including the Specialty Materials Manufacturing Division, Abrasives Division, Occupational Health and Environmental Safety Division, Logistics Division, 3M Pharmaceuticals Group, and 3M Aviation Operations; he became familiar with state of the art manufacturing processes and developed expertise in the occupational health issues related to dermal and pulmonary sensitizers, high-intensity non-ionizing radiation sources, organic and aqueous solvents, inorganic and synthetic fibers, and fluorochemical production. He was awarded the 3M Chairman’s Leadership for his contributions to the Industrial Hygiene Exposure Assessment undertaken at four plants involved in fluorochemical production. Taking advantage of an opportunity to return to Montana, he was employed for a short time by the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory near Idaho Falls, providing direct occupational medicine patient care and medical surveillance services. He was then recruited to the post of Medical Director of Occupational Health at Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls, Montana, providing direct patient care, hospital consultation services, program development, and independent medical evaluations. Dr. Schumpert founded Resources for Environmental and Occupational Health, in 2001. He serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of the University of Montana Center for Environmental Health Sciences and on the Board of Directors of the Rocky Mountain Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Dr. Schumpert is a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and a member of the International Commission on Occupational Health and the Society of Occupational Medicine (U.K.); he is Board Certified in Occupational Medicine.

David J. Hewitt, MD, MPH, has nearly 20 years of experience in the area

A native of South Dakota, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. He received his Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology from San Diego State University and completed his residency in Occupational Medicine at the Midwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of Minnesota Graduate School of Public Health. As an occupational medicine physician he has experience in treating work-related injuries and illnesses, providing case management for facilitation of early return to work of injured workers, and providing Independent Medical Examinations (IME's) regarding alleged health effects secondary to chemical exposures. He has designed, coordinated, and published environmental epidemiology studies regarding chemical exposures and biomonitoring. As a medical officer with the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), he provided consultation to both medical providers and the general public regarding chemical exposures. Dr. Hewitt specializes in analysis of health effects from chemical and environmental exposures with a special interest in respiratory conditions. He has provided consultation to Federal, State, and local public health agencies as well as individual health providers throughout the U.S. regarding chemical exposures. He has worked with numerous clients including Fortune 500 companies, universities, and attorneys nationwide as both a testifying and non-testifying expert regarding a wide range of environmental health topics. Dr. Hewitt's specific experience has included investigation of various health claims due to exposure to ammonia, arsenic, asbestos, benzene, carbon monoxide, chlorine, chlorinated solvents, chromium, creosote, crude oil, diesel exhaust, dioxins, formaldehyde, hydrogen sulfide, lead, mold, PCB's, PAH's, silica, toluene, vinyl chloride, xylene, and others.
